Vincent Stephen

There are people who are so passionate about what they do that everything they touch seems to turn to gold. That is the case for Vincent Stephen Ong, multi-instrumentalist and versatile entrepreneur, whose numerous projects all seem to fuel his infectious enthusiasm for music. “Music has always been central to my life,” he confides. “All throughout my studies, and even when I had a career in a different field, playing music was always my passion.”

Vincent Stephen expresses this passion in a multitude of ways: “I play mostly piano and saxophone, two instruments that I have taught to pupils of all ages for a long time now. I am still a private teacher.” He teaches his technique and shares his knowledge with a rotation of five students a week, while still pursuing other music-related projects.

“I play weddings and collaborate with a few bands, for example Certified Organix Jazz, which is, as the name implies, more of a jazz ensemble; and with Kalmunity, which is a jam-band integrating elements of hip-hop, reggae, funk, and afro beat. Poets and singers improvise on top of the loose musical structure we create for them, and it always makes for interesting grooves.” Vincent Stephen also plays with Nomadic Massive, a group of rappers who express their craft in over seven languages.
