Sweet Isabelle's sugary delights in Montreal

Situated on the Promenade Fleury since 2010 and more recently in Longueuil, the two little boutiques of Sweet Isabelle cater to satisfy the sweet tooth of all in the family. The friendly owner Isabelle - which is a real artist when it comes to cupcakes and cookies - shares with us her favourite Montreal spots when she hears sugar calling.

Mamie Clafoutis

1
1602, rue Fleury E, Montréal, QC H2C 1S8

Mamie recently opened a shop on rue Fleury right beside me, and this will not help keep me in line! When I crave salty treats, I delight over their blue string rough salt baguettes. When in the mood for feeding my sweet tooth, the almond and pistachio pastry holds the upper hand in my palace of flavor! Moreover, I love their atmosphere, which makes me feel like I'm sitting at home at the kitchen counter! As you can guess, the kitchen is where I feel like a fish in water!

Havre Aux Glaces

2
1575, rue Fleury E, Montréal, QC H2C 1S7

Havre aux Glace's reputation is second to none. Having already been in business at the Jean-Talon and Atwater markets for several years, the company recently opened a branch on rue Fleury E. Their creamy coconut milk ice cream and pieces of crunchy maple-burnt caramel have literally made me melt with pleasure!

Vire-Vent

3
1517, rue Fleury E, Montréal, QC H2C 1S5

At Virevent, you can choose from 20 different ice creams, and all of them are home made. Their Belgian chocolate coatings delight children and adults in Ahuntsic! Their strawberry-basil ice cream does not leave you in the cold! You’ll love the kindness and smile of Diem, the establishment's charming owner. This mother of three young children is clearly there out of love and passion for the beautiful and delicious.

La Bête A Pain

4
114, rue Fleury O, Montréal, QC H3L 1T4

This weird creature owned by Marc-André Royal (chef of the St-Urbain) is a mixture of many things – licensed restaurant, organic bakery, pastry shop, and catering business. Their decadent "six-course" Sunday brunch is worth the drive! I trip on their canelés and French bread... and get lost in the happiness. And when I have the pleasure of bumping into Annick, the person who shares this extraordinary adventure with Marc-André, my day is made. Her jovial and energetic attitude inspires me!

Mlles Gâteaux

5
363, rue Villeray, Montréal, QC H2R 1H1

This Villeray pastry shop deserves my respect for everything that they do! A special mention goes to the sponge cake soaked in chocolate and fudge! The two young ladies in charge of Mlles Gâteaux are the divas of sweets!

Pâtisserie Mercier

6
200 rue Jarry E, Montréal, QC H2P 1T5

This family business has been making pastries since the 50's. Their Royal is a masterpiece in contrasts: creamy, crispy, and puffy all at the same time, it is a true guilty pleasure. Luckily, I am only 5 km away from this bakery.

Jeff De Bruges

7
677 Rue Sainte-Catherine O, Montréal, QC H3B 5K4

A new contender in this country for the past two years, this French chocolatier also makes delicious sundaes! His vanilla ice cream is smooth, creamy, and divine! And in terms of toppings, it is the best! Personally, I eat a bit too much of their powder biscuit, lace pancakes, and pieces of meringue! Have I made it clear that I like ice cream?!

Groupe Financier Pineault

8
3307, boul Saint-Martin E, Laval, QC H7E 4T6

They hold a patent that allows them to mix soft ice cream and real fruit (or treats). This ice cream shop located in Duvernay is worth seeing. While the decor can easily be overlooked, the lineup hints at the quality of their ice cream. Personally, I'm not a fan of extravagant mixes, and the saying that less is more applies to me: their lemon ice cream is just perfect!

Sweet Isabelle

9
1584 Rue Fleury Est, Montréal, QC H2C 1S6

And what better way to satisfy your sweet tooth than by having your own shop with sweets?! When I'm not on the road discovering new pastry shops, I bake shortbread and pure butter cupcakes at my little shop on rue Fleury! Guilty pleasure? My vanilla cupcake topped with raspberry butter cream... it tastes like my childhood and the shortcakes my grandmother made on Sundays, which my cousins and I cleared in just under two minutes! These are the smells and memories that inspired the opening of Sweet Isabelle just five short years ago.
