6 scrumptious uses for leftover maple syrup

Maple syrup uses

  1. To make a quick sweet-and-sour sauce for pork, mix together:
30 ml (2 tbsp) balsamic vinegar
15 ml (1 tbsp) maple syrup
15 ml (1 tbsp) olive oil
    15 ml (1 tbsp) water
10 ml (2 tsp) Dijon mustard
    4 drops hot-pepper sauce
  2. For a better-tasting honey mustard spread that tastes great as both a dip or sandwich topping, mix together 125 millilitres (1/2 cup) Dijon mustard, 30 millilitres (two tablespoons) honey and 15 millilitres (one tablespoon) maple syrup. This sauce is excellent with breaded and fried chicken tenders.
  3. For a fabulous marinade for portobello mushrooms, mix together:
30 ml (2 tbsp) olive oil
30 ml (2 tbsp) soy sauce
30 ml (2 tbsp) chopped fresh rosemary
    3 garlic cloves, minced
10 ml (2 tsp) roasted sesame oil
10 ml (2 tsp) maple syrup
    1 ml (1/4 tsp) salt
1 ml (1/4 tsp) freshly ground black pepper
Add four portobello mushroom caps, refrigerate for one to six hours, then grill or broil until tender.
  4. To deepen the flavour of store-bought barbecue sauce, stir 30 millilitres (two tablespoons) pure maple syrup into 250 millilitres (one cup) bottled barbecue sauce.
  5. For a moist and flavourful pork tenderloin, rub pork tenderloin with store-bought seasoning blend, then wrap the roast in slices of bacon. Brush all over with maple syrup before roasting and slicing.
  6. To make a wonderful turkey salad using leftover turkey meat, mix together:
    125 ml (1/2 c) mayonnaise
45 ml (3 tbsp) maple syrup
30 ml (2 tbsp) sweet orange marmalade
    30 ml (2 tbsp) apple-cider vinegar
    15 ml (1 tbsp) hot-pepper sauce
    1 ml (1/4 tsp) salt
0.5 ml (1/8 tsp) freshly ground black pepper
Add to the mixture one kilogram (32 ounces) chopped boneless roasted turkey meat, 125 millilitres (1/2 cup) finely chopped red onion, three sectioned and cut oranges and two chopped celery stalks. Toss together to mix.
