The Puttanesca is wonderful - every time! Service is great too.
The sauces here are cooked completely from scratch, and you can tell. The two chefs are insanely experienced (actually FROM Sicily), and take out is available for you impatient ones. The prices are fair for the size of the portions and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
This has been one of our favourite restaurants for several years - the food is always excellent as is the service - there doesn't appear to be a high turnover rate in staff which is always a good indicator. The restaurant was packed last night and there was a bit of a wait for our main course but this allowed us to enjoy our salads and shared appetizer and each other's company at our leisure. We were able to savour each portion of our meal instead of rushing through it. Our dining experience lasted just over 1 1/2 hours and was a very nice way to spend time. We like the relaxed atmosphere here - and it appears that others do too - there were a lot of different groupings in the restaurant last night, tables for two to tables for ten or twelve. Everyone appeared to be enjoying their food, their evening and each other's company. We've been travelling and dining out frequently these last few months. Price for our meals has been on par or higher priced than at Sicily's. The food and service at Sicily's is comparable or better than the variety that we have experienced in our travels. It's nice to know that we have this little gem in our neck of the woods.
This used to be a small "hole in the wall" on Murphy Rd, with the best Puttanesca this side of the Atlantic. Now, it's a large, yet comfortable restaurant, that still has the best Puttanesca. The key is the capers, which no one else seems to use anymore, but distinguishes Puttenesca from plain marinara. The waitress suggested we split a Caesar salad, which was a good idea as it was huge. When you visit, bring your appetite - we took enough home for another meal for two. A little longer than expected to receive the food,(hence the 9 rather than 10) but when I realised they still make the Puttanesca sauce fresh to order (and one can tell), and still bake the entire entrée in the foil serving bag, I knew the wait would be worth it.
WORST SERVICE EVER. Took the servers 45 minutes to take our drink orders and bring them out...then we were waiting another hour and 15 mins for our food. In the meantime the servers were not coming back to our table for more drink orders or anything, so we went to the bar (there was a bartender on hand) to order drinks and paid the bartender for them. The servers then come to our table and tell us we can't do that!!! After 2 hours of waiting for food, we say something to the servers...and they do not apologize AT ALL...they say nothing. Finally the food came and by that time we were just fed up. Food is good...but not worth the hassle. NOTHING was offered for our wait...no free dessert (it was even 2 people's birthday)...no free appetizers...no $$ off. NOTHING. I have never been to a worse place. Not worth it people....
