There’s nothing quite like relaxing with a glass of wine after a hard day. All you have to do is lean back on your sofa, put on a movie and raise that glass of cabernet or chardonnay to your lips. The only thing that can make it better is knowing you made that wine yourself, which is what David Bataille, founder of Cork It Wine Making, understood perfectly when he started the company in 2000. He unfortunately passed away in 2011, but his passion for life and wine; knowledge of the industry; and love of his life, Melanie Gagnon, were more than enough to keep his legacy going.
Melanie had love and support all around her when she took over Cork It Wine Making in 2011. “I have amazing staff here and we work really well as a team – pretty much like family, and our customers are also pretty much like family, so it’s a very small, very mom-and-pop business that we have here. It’s pretty close and intimate,” says Melanie.
Each person at Cork It Wine Making has their own role based on their knowledge and expertise, but that doesn’t mean they’re confined by them. Instead, it’s a process of give-and-take where the only goal is making sure each customer goes home with a wine they absolutely love. “It’s not like I call all the shots around here,” explains Melanie. “I think we all kind of agree on things together, so it works for everyone. And I always try to get everyone’s opinion to see what they feel is best for the business as well.”
